a journey like
no other
Travel to one of the world’s oldest landscapes — continually cared for by the world’s oldest culture. This is land older than time as we measure it, where ancestral beings shaped people, languages and Lore long before history had a name.
Every ridge, every floodplain, every stone carries that story. This is the home of the world’s oldest stone axe, and countless other traces of deep human memory held quietly in Country.
Step into it, and you feel it — ancient, alive, and still guiding those who walk here.
It’s curious, ancient, playful, wild.
It’s the Northern Territory.
And it’s where we travel.
HERE'S WHERE KAKADU REVEALS ITSELF TO THE FEW—PRIVATE ACCESS TO RESTRICTED COUNTRY, ANCIENT ROCK ART SITES CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC, AND LUXURY CAMPS SET DEEP IN THE WILDERNESS WHERE SILENCE IS THE ONLY INTERRUPTION. SLEEP WHERE FEW HAVE, AND EXPERIENCE KAKADU AS IT WAS MEANT TO BE—UNHURRIED, UNSHARED, UNFORGETTABLE.

For Kat Pryer, the Top End is not a place to pass through, it is home. A landscape shaped by years spent on country, learning its seasons, stories, and quiet rhythms.
With more than a decade exploring the Northern Territory and its national parks, Kat’s knowledge extends beyond tracks and landmarks into ancient history, living culture, and deep respect for Indigenous heritage. Her background in conservation and land management informs the way each journey unfolds, carefully, responsibly, and with intention.
Guiding here is not simply a role, but a purpose. Kat leads with presence and understanding, creating experiences that allow guests to move slowly, listen closely, and form a genuine connection to the heart of the Top End.

With Story & Stone Co, you get into the places most people never see. We hold an S‑19 permit for private access into Arnhemland, and we’re approved to guide into Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge) in Southern Kakadu — one of the park’s most remote, restricted gems.
Your days roll through creek crossings, corrugations and long, quiet tracks that wind deep into stone country. You go where sealed roads don’t — Maguk, Koolpin, Twin Falls, Jim Jim, Old Jim Jim Road — the proper wild bits of the Top End.
It’s rugged, exciting and beautifully remote… but always safe, supported and guided by someone who knows the land well. Real adventure, without the crowds.

The Top End moves to its own rhythm. While many speak of a dry season and a wet, Kakadu’s Traditional Owners recognise six distinct seasons, shaped by thousands of years of observation and care.
Each shift is marked quietly, by changes in heat and rain, plants coming into flower, and bush foods appearing in their time. With every season, the landscape transforms, offering different ways to experience the park.
During the tropical summer, water spreads across floodplains and some areas become inaccessible. At other times, tracks reopen, waterfalls flow or settle, and country reveals itself in new forms. Travel here is guided by these cycles, moving in step with the land rather than against it.

You travel beyond public routes into places few are invited to enter.
Bamurru Plains offers a quieter immersion into the wetlands. This is access shaped by trust and respect, allowing you to experience the Territory without interruption, moving at a pace set by the land itself.
Story & Stone Co operates with an approved Section 19 Permit, granted by the Northern Land Council. This permit allows us to access and work on Aboriginal land respectfully and legally, following the cultural, environmental and safety requirements set by Traditional Owners.
For our guests, it simply means you’re travelling with a business that does things properly — with permission, with respect, and with the right protocols in place. It ensures safe access, responsible operations, and a genuine commitment to Country and community.
It’s part of how we run our tours: professionally, ethically, and in partnership with the people who care for this land.

The Top End does wildlife properly — no fences, no stages, no rush. With Story & Stone Co you see it in its own rhythm, the way it’s meant to be.
Kick things off with an airboat across the Mary River floodplains, skimming past crocodiles, buffalo and huge flocks of birdlife. Then slow it right down on Ngurrungurrundjba (Yellow Water) at sunset — golden light, quiet water, and wildlife doing its thing.
Head into Arnhemland for unhurried boat time at Davidson’s Arnhemland Safaris, drifting through billabongs and stone country with crocs, birds and buffalo moving naturally around you. Add in the iconic Top End water experiences — Bamurru Plains airboats, Nitmiluk cruises, Guluyambi Cultural Boat Tour — each one different, each one unforgettable.
And when you want to see the scale of it all, take to the sky. Scenic flights over Kakadu, Arnhemland and Nitmiluk show the country from a whole new angle — escarpments, floodplains, hidden gorges, endless stone country. You can even move between remote stays by air: air transfers between Davidson’s, Bamurru Plains or back to Darwin, keeping travel easy and the adventure rolling.
It’s wildlife in the wild NT — raw, real and right where it belongs.

This isn’t Kakadu held at arm’s length. You walk, swim, listen and learn in the places where story lives — guided, where possible, by Aboriginal people whose knowledge comes from lineage, not textbooks.
On Country, everything feels closer. You climb Injalak Hill and the rock art doesn’t just sit on stone — it speaks. River stories rise with the water. The wind carries language older than maps. Deep time isn’t an idea here; it’s something you feel in your feet, your breath, the way the land moves around you.
These are places cared for, sung for, and returned to for thousands upon thousands of years. You move through them with that continuity beside you — not as a spectator, but as a respectful visitor invited to see a little more.
Cultural experiences aren’t performances. They’re moments of exchange — real, engaging, grounded in Lore, humour, skill, and lived memory. Country opens slowly, and when it does, it stays with you long after you’ve left.
It’s ancient. It’s alive. And it meets you exactly where you are.
