Story & Stone Co Private Kakadu Bush Camp
A relaxed, comfortable permanent base in the Top End — your own little home in the bush.Mornings here start slow. Birdsong carries through the trees, the fire crackles back to life, and hot coffee steams in your hands. Breakfast is simple and satisfying — bacon and eggs on the pan, or fresh fruit, cheese and cereal if you prefer something lighter. It’s peaceful, grounding, and a lovely way to ease into the day.
Once the 4x4 is loaded, you head out exploring — waterfalls, rock art, billabongs, wildlife, big open country. Then in the afternoon, you roll back into camp and it feels like coming home. Familiar, relaxed, and yours.
As the sun drops, the fairy lights flick on and the fire settles into a steady glow. Friends gather, kids roast marshmallows, and someone pours a glass of wine. You might hear a dingo call out across the floodplains or the soft shuffle of night moving through the bush — just the natural rhythm of the outback settling in around you.
It’s safe, private, and made for families, couples and mates travelling together. Good food, good company, and the wide Top End sky overhead. A place to unwind, reconnect, and enjoy the simple magic of being out bush.

Meals at Story & Stone Co are all about slowing down and enjoying the moment.
Dinner is cooked over the coals, the way it should be out bush. It’s hearty, relaxed and unhurried. A glass of wine in hand, the fire crackling nearby, and good company around you — the kind of meal that settles you after a big day exploring.
You can dine in our screened‑in Eating House — comfortable, breezy and lit softly — or take your plate outside and eat under a million stars.
Whether you’re gathered inside or out under the open sky, camp dining is simple, delicious and made to be shared.
All allergies, dietary needs and personal quirks are happily catered for. Whether you’re all about beef and bush tomatoes or you’re living your best life with lentil and halloumi burgers, just let us know. We’ll make sure your plate is exactly what you want — tasty, fresh and made for you. -
Tent Comforts
Each tent is set up with two single beds, a bedside table, fans, lights, and charging ports — all the simple comforts you need after a big day out bush. Space inside the tents is cosy, so we recommend packing light and keeping luggage to the essentials.
Our tents are steel‑framed, built for Top End conditions, and fitted with breathable, mozzie‑proof mesh to keep the air flowing and the bugs out. Every tent has a lockable flyscreen door, and yes — you hold the key. It’s your own private little base in the bush, safe, comfortable and ready to settle into.
FacilitiesJust a short 50‑metre wander from camp, you’ll find the shared Kakadu NP operated ablution block — clean and simple.
There are warm showers, toilets, and plenty of space to freshen up.At night, a solar‑lit path guides you all the way there and back, so you don’t have to fumble around in the dark. It’s an easy stroll, a bit of fresh air, and part of the fun of camp life.
Warm shower, starry sky, and then back to the fire — it’s all part of the rhythm.

Enjoy sole‑use touring in a fully equipped luxury 4WD with your own professional guide. No crowds, no rigid pace — just relaxed, flexible days shaped around your interests and the rhythm of the land. It’s private, comfortable and designed so you can explore at your own speed, with space to stop, wander, swim and soak up the Top End exactly how you want to.
Story & Stone Co Camp is shared only with fellow Story & Stone Co travellers — no crowds, no random neighbours, just our little crew. Sometimes it’s just you and your guide with the whole place to yourselves. Other times you might share it with another couple or a family on their own adventure, each with their own Story & Stone guide. It’s a relaxed, easy vibe: we cook dinner over the coals, pull up chairs around the fire, swap stories from the day and enjoy a glass of wine under the stars. Kids toast marshmallows, adults laugh a little louder, and everyone settles into that comfortable bush rhythm.
The camp can sleep up to 16 people, but it never feels busy — just friendly, private and full of good company.
A little community for the night, gathered around the fire. -
With Story & Stone Co, you get into the places most people never see. We hold an S‑19 permit for access into Arnhemland, and we’re approved to guide into Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge) in Southern Kakadu — one of the park’s most remote, restricted gems.
Your days roll through creek crossings, corrugations and long, quiet tracks that wind deep into stone country. You go where sealed roads don’t — Maguk, Koolpin, Twin Falls, Jim Jim, Old Jim Jim Road — the proper wild bits of the Top End.
It’s rugged, exciting and beautifully remote… but always safe, supported and guided by someone who knows the land well. Real adventure, without the crowds.

The Top End does wildlife properly — no fences, no stages, no rush. With Story & Stone Co you see it in its own rhythm, the way it’s meant to be.
Kick things off with an airboat across the Mary River floodplains, skimming past crocodiles, buffalo and huge flocks of birdlife. Then slow it right down on Ngurrungurrundjba (Yellow Water) at sunset — golden light, quiet water, and wildlife doing its thing.
Head into Arnhemland for unhurried boat time at Davidson’s Arnhemland Safaris, drifting through billabongs and stone country with crocs, birds and buffalo moving naturally around you. Add in the iconic Top End water experiences — Bamurru Plains airboats, Nitmiluk cruises, Guluyambi Cultural Boat Tour — each one different, each one unforgettable.
And when you want to see the scale of it all, take to the sky. Scenic flights over Kakadu, Arnhemland and Nitmiluk show the country from a whole new angle — escarpments, floodplains, hidden gorges, endless stone country. You can even move between remote stays by air: air transfers between Davidson’s, Bamurru Plains or back to Darwin, keeping travel easy and the adventure rolling.
It’s wildlife in the wild NT — raw, real and right where it belongs.

This isn’t Kakadu from a distance. You walk, swim, listen, and learn with Aboriginal guides, Injalak Hill, rock art, river stories, deep time underfoot.

This permit allows us to access and work on Aboriginal land respectfully and legally, following the cultural, environmental and safety requirements set by Traditional Owners. For our guests, it simply means you’re travelling with a business that does things properly — with permission, with respect, and with the right protocols in place.
